Dr. Rizq is professor of modern history at Ein Shams University in Cairo and head of Al-Ahram History Center. He is also a member of the Consultative Council. A winner of the State Award for Social Sciences in 1995, Dr. Rizq specializes in modern Egyptian and Arab history and has published over 40 books on the history of Egypt, Sudan, and other Arab countries

He writes on regular bases for Al-Ahram, a section called ' Diwan of Contemporary Life' which deals with 20th century political history in Egypt. His writings also dealt with the History of Egyptian political parties and Secularism in Egypt
