Dr. Makled is former chairman of the political science departments at Assiut University, the United Arab Emirates University, and Kuwait University. He was a research consultant to the office of the Emir of Kuwait (1984-1990) and has lectured on US foreign policy, the United Nations, diplomacy, and public relations in a number of Arab universities and military schools

Dr. Makled is the author of many books. His writings dealt with issues like the New World Order in the Gulf region and the future of East Europe. He also wrote for magazines in Arabic like Sho'oun Ijtema'eyah, United Arab Emirates, and al-Oloum al-Ijtema'eyah, and the Arab Encyclopedia of political science
